Frequently Asked Questions

How is trip fuel cost calculated?

Trip fuel cost is calculated using a straightforward formula. First, divide the total trip distance (in kilometers) by your vehicle's expected fuel average (in km/L) to find the required volume of fuel in liters. Then, multiply this volume by the current petrol or diesel price per liter to get the total estimated fuel expense. For example: (375 km ÷ 15 km/L) × Rs 341.59/L = Rs 8,540.

How much petrol do I need?

The amount of petrol you need depends entirely on your journey distance and your vehicle's fuel consumption rate. Divide your total planned distance (km) by your vehicle's average mileage (km/L). For instance, if you are planning a 200 km trip in a car that averages 10 km/L, you will need exactly 20 liters of petrol. Adding a 10% safety reserve is always recommended.

Does AC increase fuel cost?

Yes, operating the air conditioner increases fuel cost because the engine must provide additional power to run the AC compressor. On average, using the AC during your trip increases fuel consumption by 10% to 15% in standard sedans, and up to 20% in smaller 660cc hatchback engines, which directly translates to higher fuel expenses.

Can I calculate diesel trips?

Yes, you can easily calculate diesel trips. Simply override the default petrol price in the 'Petrol Price (Rs/Litre)' input field with the current retail price of high-speed diesel (HSD) in Pakistan (e.g., using the live diesel price shown above) to get accurate diesel expense estimates for your journey.

Does motorway driving reduce fuel cost?

Motorway driving can reduce overall fuel cost if you maintain a moderate, steady speed of 90 km/h to 100 km/h, as this allows the engine to run at optimal, consistent RPMs without stop-and-go friction. However, cruising at high speeds like 120 km/h increases aerodynamic drag, which can raise fuel consumption by 15% compared to steady highway cruising.

Can I enter custom petrol prices?

Yes. While the calculator automatically fetches the latest live OGRA-notified fuel prices on page load, the petrol price input field is fully interactive. You can manually enter any custom price to reflect local pump premiums, high-octane (HOBC) prices, or specific regional fuel tariffs.

Does this include toll tax?

No, the calculated result represents the pure fuel cost of your journey based on vehicle mileage and current fuel prices. Motorway tolls (such as the M-2 M-Tag or M-9 toll charges) and other localized highway taxes are not automatically added and must be budgeted separately.

Can I calculate motorcycle trips?

Absolutely. The calculator is fully compatible with motorcycles. Simply input your bike's expected mileage—which typically ranges from 45 km/L to 55 km/L for 125cc models and up to 65 km/L for 70cc models—along with your trip distance to calculate the precise fuel cost for your motorcycle journey.

How often are petrol prices updated?

Our calculator's underlying system automatically monitors and updates petrol and diesel prices whenever the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and the Government of Pakistan officially notify price adjustments, which typically happens fortnightly (every 15 days).

How accurate are these estimates?

The calculations are mathematically 100% precise based on the inputs you provide. However, real-world accuracy depends on the variance in actual driving conditions. Factors like unexpected traffic congestion, severe wind resistance, heavy passenger payload, and high-altitude climbs can cause actual fuel usage to deviate slightly from your pre-trip estimate.

What affects trip cost?

Several external variables affect your final trip cost, including total travel distance, current regional fuel prices, vehicle fuel efficiency, aggressive throttle usage, running the air conditioner, carrying excessive passenger or cargo weight, driving against strong headwinds, and traversing steep uphill terrains.

Is this calculator free?

Yes, this Fuel Cost Calculator is 100% free to use. There are no registration requirements, no hidden fees, and no usage limits. All calculation logic runs securely on your device, ensuring maximum privacy.
